Our MMA Classes blend the fitness aspects of grappling, with the skills of joint manipulation/chokes and locks, with advanced striking and kicking skills. Great for increasing fitness while gaining self defence skills. Typical session consists of:

15 Minute warm up

40 Minutes technical work

To participate fully you will need your own pair of Grappling Gloves for hygiene purposes. These are available to purchase through the club at highly competitive prices or you may bring your own.

You’ll also need a towel and water though again, refreshments are available to purchase at the studio.

Everything we do is working towards solid self defence fighting skills, we do not waste any time on exercises or movement that do not relate to solid Martial Arts concepts and skills.

WEAPONS CLASSES

Our weapons classes are designed to teach you the basic to advanced understanding of weapons handling and use for self protection, and also how to disarm and take control of a weapon from an attacker. Training is strictly carried out with blunt weapons only. No exceptions except for highly advanced students.

You will be required to purchase your own training stick and dagger once you have acquired the basic skills.

Eye protection and chest protector are also required at the intermediate stage of training.

Our MMA classes have been set up and are based around the skills from Chinese Wrestling (Sui) and Joint Manipulation (Qin Na), meaning to “seize and control”.  Qin Na is where the more populist and well known Japanese systems which include “Aikido”, Ju Jitsu and Judo come from. The skills emphasis is on grappling & anti grappling techniques, takedowns, choke holds and joint locks, to bring an aggressor under control while keeping you safe from further attack.

Our approach to MMA follow the fundamental principles of simplicity and directness of application and are therefore learned with an appreciation of realistic application. Excessive footwork is avoided and over elaborate moves are omitted.

The benefits of training our MMA skills manifest in increased strength gained in the body, mainly the arms, hands, back, neck and legs, as well as gradual flexibility gained through being stretched by your training partner when applying the techniques in training. It’s great fun to practice and a practical way to keep fit while learning self defence.
